New Plaque Unveiled for Joseph Huntley

New Plaque Unveiled for Joseph Huntley

On 18th September Reading’s latest commemorative plaque was unveiled.   Organised by the Reading Civic Society and the house owner, the plaque celebrates the time when Joseph Huntley lived at 9 Whitley Crescent, which is now 21 Christchurch Road, in Reading.

It was between 1837 and 1854 that Huntley, the local entrepreneur and founder of the famous Huntley and Palmers, lived in the house.

This plaque is surprisingly the only one that exists to his memory and it is most fitting that it was erected during the 200th anniversary of the founding of the company he started.
