“What!! Watt”

Was it just my Dad who always said “you mean Pardon – not Watt, he was the man who invented the steam engine” when I blurted out “What!”. Well it is nearly the 200th anniversary of his death on 25th August (that is James Watt, not my Dad). There is lots going on to celebrate the great man and his inventions at this time, and he even has his own website for the bicentennial activities.

For those of you who attended John Joyes’ excellent talk on Boulton and Watts will be pleased to see that one of their steam engines will be awarded the Engineering Heritage Award from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on the 25th August at his current home in the Verdant Works’ museum.
