Watch the video of us getting to use an historic print press on our fun and informative visit to Reading University’s Typography and Graphic Communication department.
On Monday 5th August Martin Andrews hosted BIAG in a dip in to this globally respected department’s collections and archives. I say a dip because the volume of material is vast and deserving of more than a cursory glance. Printing has made a significant contribution to Reading’s industrial heritage on a par with the more widely recognised areas of beer, bulbs and biscuits, and we wanted to see the artefacts kept here which show both the local and world-wide growth and importance of this industry.
On the visit we saw equipment, documents, engravings, wood cuts and much much more, many of which are unique and with both typographic and historical significance. It was an excellent event, made even more enjoyable by the enthusiasm and knowledge of our host, Martin. I am sure we will return to see more of the huge collection.
